Keyless Entry Verification Procedure for Toyota 4Runner 2003-2008

Limited Models and SR5 Models are equipped with keyless entry standard. Other trims and the base model may or may not be equipped.

Factory Installed System:
Perform the following test to see if you have this system:
Start with the following conditions:
  1. Key is out of the ignition
  2. Driver door is open (all other doors are closed)
  3. Driver door is unlocked (other doors don’t matter).
  4. Perform the next two steps within 5 seconds:
  5. Insert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) and pull it out.
  6. Insert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) and pull it out.
  7. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
  8. Close then open the driver’s door.
  9. Close then open the driver’s door.
  10. Insert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) and pull it out.
  11. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
  12. Close then open the driver’s door.
  13. Close then open the driver’s door.
  14. Insert the key into the ignition.
  15. Close the driver’s door.
  16. Turn the ignition to ON (as far as you can go without cranking your engine) then back to OFF.
  17. Remove the key from the ignition.
  18. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) automatically indicating your vehicle is equipped with the system.
